Effective Treatment for Body Pain

Acupuncture for StressLiving with pain is exhausting. Whether it’s caused by a repetitive stress injury, a car accident, chronic disease or ongoing muscular tightness caused by stress, pain can prevent you from doing the things that bring you joy and energize you.

If you’re tired of pain sapping your energy and making your grouchy, acupuncture may be able to help you manage it. First, we start with the knowledge that pain doesn’t respond to a one-size-fits-all prescription. Different kinds of pain require different types of treatment.

Pain Due to Chronic Stress

Stress causes your muscles to contract, and over time this can lead to chronic muscle tension.

We treat this stress-induced soreness by addressing the tight muscle groups causing the pain. Often orthopedic acupuncture is the first step, as well as balancing the body through traditional Chinese acupuncture.

Tui Na massage can be an important part of treatment for this type of body pain. Lifestyle changes, herbal remedies, and dietary supplements may also be recommended.

Pain Caused by Chronic Disease

If you suffer from chronic diseases such as fibromyalgia, endometriosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and depression, you know that the mechanisms causing your pain are not yet well understood.

Acupuncture treatment for pain associated with chronic disease seeks to treat the underlying Chinese medical disharmony, thereby treating the pain.

Gentle Tui Na massage, acupressure and Jin Shin Jytsu are often useful in cases of pain due to chronic illness. Chi Nei Tsang may also be recommended in cases of abdominal pain associated with endometriosis, IBS, and lower back pain.

Treatment may also involve patients trying an anti-inflammatory diet and making other lifestyle changes, as well as taking herbs and supplements.

Orthopedic AcupunctureOrthopedic Acupuncture for Injuries

In the case of injury to a specific joint or muscles, orthopedic acupuncture is often the most appropriate treatment.

Orthopedic acupuncture is a blend of Western orthopedics testing and diagnosis, and ancient Chinese healing techniques such as acupuncture, cupping, and moxa.

As with systemic acupuncture, orthopedic acupuncture stimulates healing through increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation in the body.

Electro AcupunctureOrthopedic acupuncture tends to focus more on treating the injured area by needling it directly. Acupuncture points are chosen specifically for ability to release and encourage healing in the injured anatomical structures, rather than addressing the imbalances of the entire body.

Electro-acupuncture employs small electricity-conducting clamps attached to the acupuncture needles. It is used to send a gentle electrical signal into the injured muscles, encouraging them to release.

Tui Na massage is an excellent adjunct therapy for pain due to injury. Reflexology can also be a very effective form of massage for foot pain or if you want pain relief but are initially too sensitive for full body massage.

Testimonial
“I am still pain free 6 months later”

I came to Katherine with chronic and worsening achilles and shoulder pain from years of tennis and running. I had little expectation because the pain was pretty intense. Katherine quickly diagnosed my injuries and began a series of treatments which included massage, stim and accupuncture. After about 6 weeks she got me back on the court and the trail with little or no pain! And I am still pain free 6 months later.

I would highly recommend her practice to anyone looking for pain relief. She’s a gifted healer.
